Playing out... in the street

As many of you will have seen, On Sunday October 10th afternoon, Sulina Road was closed so the children could play in the street, and they loved it!

You could sense the liberation as they zoomed up and down on an assortment of bikes, scooters and a mini go-kart, lending them all to each other so everyone could have a go. They developed lots of games without any need for suggestions from adults, showing how inventive they can be. Children of all ages mixed together and shared the space, and they chalked their names in huge letters plus messages such as 'Road Closed' and 'Watch out for People!'

Many thanks to Hen for organising this, and to the other parents for support. And also to the residents who were all very considerate about driving around slowly and only if they needed to.

Here's what playing out in the street looked like...

Street party 2012 - The pictures!

Last Sunday saw yet another fantastic street party. It was great to see so many people there with family and friends, and we welcomed several new residents who'd just moved in as well as neighbours from streets nearby. Lots of delicious food was brought, with a particularly extensive cake section, the barbecue was on the go all day, the amazing Street Party Band entertained us with all styles of music, the Olympic Hopping Match got lots of people on their feet.

The theme this year was "Celebrating London" because it's London's big year in lots of ways - this can involve London history including the Dickens bicentenary, the Olympics and Paralympics, multicultural London...

A really big thank you to all the people who helped organise and to the local businesses for their support. Here are some pictures of the day. A really big thank you to Roger Kynaston for the photos.

GRI: Graffiti Re-Invented

We can't be accused of not liking street art, our street is full of it. But, if it's not good enough, we'll re-invent it!

An unimaginative graffiti appeared on Malcolm's house on Friday. Saturday was all about expanding it.

Some more pictures of the complete work take on Sunday.

Photoshoot

Hello,

Apologies for not posting much news lately. Here's a fun post.

We've just found that our street was used as a background for a photoshoot in a fashion magazine (see pictures at Volt Cafe).

Selection below. I guess we all look that fashionable when walking down the street. It must be the magical effect of our street.

Thanks to Hen who spotted this.

Xmas tree pictures

Every year we decorate "our tree" in Sulina road for Christmas. Local people tell us "I know it's finally Christmas when I see the decorations in Sulina road."

This year was no exception. Quite a few of us went out to help:

 Everyone busy decorating the tree

 Santa's beard makes a good face-warmer!

Spot the musicians arriving for the carol singing.

Does anyone have a picture of the tree at night? Please send them at morlinasw2{at}gmail(dot)com.
